As dog owners ourselves, Simon and I know how important it is to have a secure garden when you’re away. If you’re constantly wondering where your dog is, or whether they might make a dash for freedom, it’s difficult to properly relax and enjoy your holiday.

That’s why every one of our cottages has its own private, 6ft enclosed garden — giving you peace of mind while your dog enjoys a little freedom too.
We’ve put a lot of thought into making our gardens as dog-secure as possible. The fencing is predominantly closeboard, backed up with stock fencing and specialist deer mesh, and all our gardens are enclosed to a minimum of 6ft.

And we have a rather good test subject! We have a Belgian Malinois — quite possibly one of the most athletic and determined breeds of dog you could test a garden with. Until recently, she was a prison guard dog at HMP Belmarsh, so you could say she has had plenty of experience with security!

We’ve used her as our very own four-legged escape tester, and despite her best efforts, she hasn’t managed to escape from any of our gardens.
Of course, we know that every dog is different. Some are professional diggers, some are climbers and some are exceptionally talented jumpers — and occasionally we suspect one or two may have packed a set of step ladders in their suitcase!
So while we’re confident that our gardens are dog-secure, we can’t promise that the most determined escape artist couldn’t find a way out. If your dog is known to be a Houdini, please give us a call. We know our individual gardens well and can help you choose the cottage we think will suit them best.

"Our First visit but not the last. The cottage is gorgeous. The attention to detail is nothing like we have ever seen before, and trust me, we have stayed in many so-called "dog-friendly" places. To have a garden that was properly secure even for our 2 Dachshunds (who are known escape artists) meant we could properly relax. The boys loved the secure exercise fields. We are very lucky; we do tend to get booked quite far in advance, as not only do many of our guests come back year-on-year, but they often come several times a year - their dogs insist on it!
