Dog Related FAQ's

How many dogs do you allow per cottage

We say 3, but more are definitely possible on request.

Are the gardens properly secure?

WE ARE DOG OWNERS - WE UNDERSTAND
Being dog owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to have properly dog secure gardens, as without this we can't relax if we are worried that our dogs might go off and have an adventure on their own, thus each of our cottage gardens are extremely well fenced with dogs in mind and to the best of our knowledge are fully dog secure and have 6ft fencing.

TALL PERMITER FENCING
The garden perimeter fencing for each cottage is circa 6ft plus.

TYPE OF FENCING
The perimeter fencing is made up of a mix of close board wooden fencing and purpose built specialist deer fencing (designed to keep large herds of deer in/out) The mesh holes are 30mm (the size of an adults thumb)

My dog does not like other dogs, is this a problem?

About 80-90 % of our canine guests are rescue people and the majority have issues of some sort or another so the cottages and their gardens (ie tall close board garden fencing) are designed to account for this. The Quantock Hills are very quiet if you see anyone else it is a rarity. Our 3 doggie exercise fields are only for use of our K9 guests and their parents and as we have 3 there will always be one available for your use.

Do you have an enclosed dog exercise area?

We don't have just one enclosed doggie exercise area we have 3!

All 3 areas are fenced with 6ft deer fencing so your hounds will be able to have lots of off lead adventures whilst safely contained

Mini Bark is our 1.5 acre enclosed paddock which has awesome sea views and a fun agility course.

Central Bark is a 2 acre enclosed field, again with epic sea views and this paddock is ideal for those after long gallops and general steam letting off

Our "Woodland Scent Zone" is a 1.5 acre 6ft fenced enclosed woodland. Here you doggos can bring out their "wild" and back to "nature" side as there is much sniffing, scenting to be had and and possibly the odd naughty squirrel to be chased! There is also an agility course within the wood for extra fun and frolics.

Do we have to book these dog parks?

No you don't. All 3 bark parks are only for the use of of our K9 guests who are staying in one of our 3 cottages, thus one of the enclosed areas will always be available for your use.

Do we have exclusive use of these dog parks?

Yes of course you do if you so wish. As said above there will always be one available for your use.

Where are these Exercise areas?

Central Bark & Mini Bark are located next to the parking area for Coleridge & Greenway cottages and the Woodland Scent Zone is 4 minutes up the lane, or 1 minute from the Quantcok Hide.

Is the local pub dog friendly?

Yes we have 2 within walking distance. The Hood Arms is at the bottom of the lane. The food here is exceptional. We also have the Plough Inn at Holford, again this is a very good local pub.

Do you have lots of rules?

No, not at all. We appreciate that you are a responsible dog owner and that you will look after our much loved and cherished cottages and their gardens as you do your own home. If your dogs like to sit on the sofa not a problem just bring lots of blankets to cover them. The only thing we ask is that dogs not be left in the cottages and or gardens by themselves. They are in a strange environment and they may not behave with the decorum that they do at home. Everywhere in Somerset is dog friendly. If you did happen to want a day out or even a night without the fur kids then there are some very good local kennels both day and boarding and their details will be in your digital guide which you will get on booking.

What is each cottage garden made up of?

Each cottage garden has a mixture of gravel and grass. As said above with the purpose built doggie gates you can decide if you want your fur kids to have the run of all the "garden rooms" for your cottage or just part of.

Is there area good for walking and how far do we have to get for walks?

Yes! Some of the very best walking in the country is at the end of your garden with 9,500 acres of Quantocks (SSSI & AONB). The coast is also only a mile and a half away. We also have our 3/4 acre enclosed woodland doggie play zone with agility course.

Are the beaches dog friendly all year round?

Yes. All the local beaches are dog friendly year round, although in the summer at Minehead beach you have to keep to the right hand side. For best sandy beaches, Blue Anchor, Dunster and Bream Beaches fit the bill. Your local beach is Kilve, is a mile and a half away.

Do you have a hose to wash the dogs off?

Yes each cottage has a dedicated doggie spa area which has hot and cold shower taps, doggie baths and a drying area.
